24 hour non-stop
Gilbert and Sullivan

19-20 June 1992 St John's Church, Princes Street, Edinburgh

In 1992, EUSOG submitted a video of its production of The Sorcerer from January of that year to the Waterford International Festival of Light Opera for consideration by a selection committee as a potential contender. In due course, we were delighted to learn that we had been invited to participate in the Festival and that we would have the opportunity to perform an adapted production of The Sorcerer in competition with several other shortlisted amateur light opera groups.

In order to raise funds for the transport, accommodation and production costs EUSOG held a unique sponsored event which involved live and continuous performance of 14 Gilbert and Sullivan operas in a city centre church over a 24 hour period. The first and last scheduled operas were accompanied by a full orchestra, while the others had piano accompaniment. Although no photos are known to have survived from this event, as can be seen from the documents, there was a degree of planning involved.
